BOEN wooden floors are crafted from the natural material wood – warm, vibrant, and full of character. As a company working with wood, we carry an important heritage that we are committed to preserving.
Our dedication to sustainability is reflected in the responsible and conscious management of our resources.
FSC®
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an independent, non-profit organisation that promotes responsible forestry. FSC® ensures that forests are managed sustainably, biodiversity is protected, and local communities are respected. BOEN guarantees transparency from the forest to the finished product. FSC® MIX products contain at least 70% FSC®-certified wood, with the remainder sourced from controlled materials. A BOEN product is only FSC®-certified if indicated in the product description, on the packaging, and in the delivery documentation.
Nordic Swan Ecolabel
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official environmental label of the Nordic countries. It assesses the entire lifecycle of a product, from raw material extraction to disposal, ensuring minimal environmental impact. BOEN oak, ash, maple, cherry, and beech floors carry this label, which guarantees sustainable wood sourcing, strict chemical controls, compliance with all limits, and a healthy indoor climate.
eco-INSTITUT Label
The eco-INSTITUT label is an independent certification for products that meet very strict criteria for low emissions and the absence of harmful substances. It ensures that BOEN floors contribute to a healthy indoor climate and can be safely used in construction and renovation projects. Architects and planners recognize it as a mark of environmental responsibility and product quality.
Blauer Engel
The Blauer Engel is an internationally recognized environmental label awarded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment. Products with the Blauer Engel are distinguished by very low pollutant emissions and safe ingredients, ensuring a healthy indoor climate. The certification evaluates the entire lifecycle of a product – from wood sourcing through production, use, and disposal – guaranteeing minimal environmental impact.
Sentinel Holding Institut
BOEN partners with the Sentinel Holding concept. The Sentinel Holding Institut (SHI) is one of the leading institutes for healthy building and living. The institute evaluates building products against specific criteria to ensure low-emission, environmentally conscious construction. Ingredient lists and emission reports form the basis for flooring assessments. Approved and evaluated products are listed in the Sentinel Haus Institut database and additionally carry the QNG-ready certificate.
FloorScore®
FloorScore® is an independent certification for hard surface flooring, internationally recognized for indoor air quality. Products with the FloorScore® label are tested for very low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and support a healthy indoor environment. The certification covers the product’s entire lifecycle, from production to use, promoting sustainable and responsible flooring.
Émissions (VOC)
A French regulation from 2011 requires certain construction products to be labeled with an emissions class. The test evaluates 10 individual substances and the total VOC (TVOC) value.
FDES
The FDES (Fiche de Déclaration Environnementale et Sanitaire) is a French certification that assesses the environmental and health impacts of building products. It considers the entire product lifecycle, from raw materials to disposal, providing transparency about emissions and ecological impact. BOEN floors are FDES-certified, meeting sustainability standards and French building regulations.
EPD
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides detailed information on the environmental impact of a product across its entire lifecycle – from raw material extraction to disposal or recycling. EPDs follow ISO 14025 standards and offer transparency on factors such as global warming, smog formation, ozone depletion, and water pollution. The certification supports architects and planners in making environmentally conscious material choices.
ISO 14001
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard for environmental management. It certifies that we are committed to systematically reducing our environmental impact, striving to use resources efficiently, and continuously improving our sustainability performance. All our European production sites are ISO 14001 certified – reflecting our commitment to responsible manufacturing and to protecting nature, the very source of our wooden floors.
