Autumn trends 2014

Oak Tobacco Solid plank URban contrast style
I love the way the acidic yellow "pops" against the saturated petrol blue wall and the strong texture of the Oak Tobacco, Solid plank floor from BOEN in this Urban Contrast setting.
A splash of colour. Three major colour trends now are: Petrol blue, Pastels and Black.
Autumn brings with it a need to update our interiors, much in the same way as we feel the need to update our wardrobe. Like fashion, there are a number of trends that you can choose between at the moment; from beautiful colours, to materials, shapes pattern, lighting design and so on. Different design trends will influence your style personality and total look.

The aim of this blog is to inspire you to find your style and then play with it. You can read about each BOEN style here.

In this post I am focusing on one of the major trends at the moment; COLOUR, and the new ways in which we are using them in our homes.

Deep blue tones with a hint of green

Deep blue tones with a hint of green to them are beautifully moody and easy to fall in love with. No wonder blue is an immensely popular colour all over the world. I predict that we will see even more shades of blue in the near future. For the moment I am concentrating on the PETROL BLUE hue, which is, and has always been, a great favourite of mine.

  1. The striking table lamp Revolve from Bert Frank would look beautiful on a desk in a Classic Elegance interior.
  2. The Mr Big sofa from Bolia can fit into a number of styles depending on if you dress it up or down. Its clean lines and strong shape can look great against a light Pure Nordic backdrop, but it would also fit nicely into a Classic Elegance interior.
  3. You can always count on Le Creuset when it comes to beautifully coloured kitchenware, the new colour Ocean, would fit perfectly into the Modern Rustic kitchen. www.lecreuset.dk

There is also an extensive use of PASTELS in interior design at the moment

And they are definitely not of the sweet and sickly kind, the new pastels are beautifully soft and saturated, one might even call them quite mature. Use them sparingly by adding dots of pastel coloured accessories, or paint a chair or another larger object. The most daring might even choose a pastel kitchen.

The chair painted in a beautiful pastel nuance suits the Modern Rustic feel of the Oak Vivo Castle plank floor.

    1. The Austrian label Feinedinge makes delicate porcelain objects with structured surfaces in soft pastels, which will appeal to the Modern Rustic fan, but would also fit well into a Pure Nordic home.  www.feinedinge.at/en
    2. Would you dare to choose a pastel kitchen? You might if you are the Modern Rustic kind. The key is to keep it simple and unfussy, as seen here in the kitchen Culture by Danish brand Tvis. www.tvis.com
    3. Two elegant pastel stools from the Ro-collection by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen become a beautiful contrast in a Classic Elegance interior. The floor is vintage, but you can obtain this look with new flooring as well, your BOEN consultant will be happy to advice you. www.fritzhansen.com

Some people might argue that BLACK is not a colour, and neither is white.

I beg to differ. Both black and white are important nuances to work with in our interiors, and at the moment we are seeing a shift towards using black as a neutral colour. We see it on our walls, in accessories and on larger pieces of furniture. So next time you think about painting something white, why not try to picture it in black instead?

A floor that is almost black is perfect for the Classic Elegance home – especially when the beautiful texture of the wood is allowed to shine through as in the Oak Noir Plank from BOEN.

        1. The Afteroom chair designed by Afteroom for Menu, is both original and sculptural in black. It would look beautiful in a simple Pure Nordic interior, but could also add the industrial chic to a Modern Rustic home. www.menu.as
        2. Black is the new white! Dare to paint your wall in a darker hue, pictured is the colour Lady Balance 1434 from Jotun. In an Urban Contrast environment one would dare to paint the entire room dark, while a Pure Nordic enthusiast might prefer just one wall. The Classic Elegance connoisseur would team it with luxurious fabrics and golden details, while the Modern Rustic fan might limit this colour to a small room, such as a guest bathroom or a small hallway. www.jotun.com
        3. The Snoopy lamp was designed by Achillle and Pier Castiglioni in 1967 and is a true design classic. The base is Carrara-marble, while the egg-shaped metal and glass shade is black. This icon will fit smoothly into the Urban Contrast interior, but is also beautiful as an exciting contrast to a Classic Elegance interior. www.flos.com
