The colour blue

Af Helle Tjaberg  –

We look more closely at some of this year's trends, and first off is the colour blue.
We started of the year with a trend report, which gave you insight into which colours, shapes, patterns etc will be most important this year. I want to follow up by looking more closely at some of the trends, and first off is the colour blue. It is everywhere at the moment, and most often in quite strong, bold shades, which are definitely best suited to the CLASSIC ELEGANCE and URBAN CONTRAST styles. But there are certainly ways of incorporating them in PURE NORDIC and MODERN RUSTIC homes as well.

Sofa, Fly, from &Tradition
Blue velvet will never be wrong. This great sofa, Fly, from &Tradition, is very ELEGANT, and has a CLASSIC vibe
thanks to the velvet, but would also look great in an Urban Contrast environment.

7-chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen
The 7-chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen, is usually associated with the PURE NORDIC interiors, but in marking the
chairs 60th anniversary, Fritz Hansen has launched it in a beautiful dark blue laquer, but also a pale pink version – two
of the most important colours of the moment. Combining the two colours will suit both the CLASSIC ELEGANT
 and the URBAN CONTRAST interior.
Bolia-sofa Orlando
The Bolia-sofa Orlando is the perfect choice for someone who loves different shades of blue. By choosing different
textile covers for the modules, you are guaranteed a personal sofa. This version is URBAN CONTRAST all the way,
for the CLASSIC ELEGANT interior I would choose velvet for all the modules.

Oak Andante Prestige whitepigmented Fishbone pattern
If you are the PURE NORDIC type you might balk at the thought of painting your
wall a too demanding shade of blue. But relax, there are a number of beautiful aqua
shades to choose from, which will make for a harmonious coupling against your floor.
Pictured is the BOEN Oak White Prestige, in a herringbone pattern. So beautiful …

Pouf from Broste Copenhagen
It´s all in the details … The bright blue really pops against the paler versions of this pouf
from Broste Copenhagen. In a MODERN RUSTIC interior this would be a great way to
combine a splash of colour with the softer muted palette that is more common in this style.

Tricia Guild collection from Designers Guild
Dare to be bold, as Tricia Guild always is in her collections. These wonderful colours
are from the latest collection from Designers Guild, which is called Shanghai Garden.
Silk curtains that graze the floor, and matching pillows are pure CLASSIC ELEGANCE.

Mari-bowl from Iittala in the beautiful Rain-shade

The easiest way to add colour without going overboard, is in the details. If you prefer your
interiors quite calm and light, and feel most at home in the PURE NORDIC style, add colour
in the shape and form of the Mari-bowl from Iittala in the beautiful Rain-shade.

Oak Mystic Jungle Castle plank
If you choose a darker, livelier type of floor in the URBAN CONTRAST style, such as
the pictured BOEN Oak Mystic Jungle Castle Plank, it is always a good idea to contrast
with colour, and if you do not want to paint, why not choose a painting or a poster?

Sofa Redondo, and is designed by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso
This amazing sofa is called Redondo, and is designed by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso. I like its soft and playful features,
features that are enhanced by the strong blue shade. It would work well in both a CLASSIC ELEGANCE and
an URBAN CONTRAST interior.

The pendant lamp is called Say my name, design Morten & Jonas for Northern Lighting
This beautiful pendant is called Say my name, design Morten & Jonas for Northern Lighting.
It will be in shops this autumn, but I wanted to share it with you already. The blueish purple
Venetian hand blown glass is just stunning. It is shown in an URBAN CONTRAST interior
in this image, but this is a lamp that suits every BOEN style. Also available as a table lamp.

colour Stiffkey Blue from British paint and wallpaper company Farrow & Ball
Still life with flowers … few can beat the British paint and wallpaper company Farrow & Ball
when it comes to beautiful muted colours, and their shades of blue are stunning. Pictured is
the colour Stiffkey Blue. Notice how they have painted both the walls, the ceiling, the skirting
and the door in the same shade, a very bold move. This colour is beautiful in both the

String-shelf in blue colour
This is also a great example of blue on blue, but this stronger shade is maybe a bit too daring for many when it comes
to painting an entire wall, so if you just want the String-shelf, be my guest, it will look great as a burst of colour in both
you could choose this shade for a hallway or maybe even a kitchen?

Oak Nature Prestige in Fishbone pattern
I love pairing classic shapes with more modern design, something which I believe this
image is the perfect example of. The blue velvet makes the classic chair seem more modern,
as does the side table. The floor is lovely as well, BOEN Oak Select Prestige in a
herringbone pattern, very CLASSICALLY ELEGANT …
