Lighten Up

Af Helle Tjaberg  –

Correct lighting has a lot to say for our well being, and as a rule natural light is better then artificial or weak lighting.
Some even say that correct lighting can contribute to increased creativity! In other words it is good to take time to create a lighting plan for your home – not least because there are so many great lamps to choose from at the moment.

Start by considering the room’s natural light, how many windows are there, how does the light stream through them? Start with a good ceiling light, and always install a dimmer, which makes it easier to control the light source.

Table and floor lamps are essential for reading and working to avoid tiring your eyes. And don´t forget to include mood lighting to enhance the rooms ambience! Here are some of our favourite lamps this winter!

Amp Lamp series by Dimon Legald for Normann Copenhagen
Amp, a new series of lights by the designer Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen made of untinted and tinted
glass and marble. Available as both pendants and table lamps. Timeless design which works perfectly for all four interior styles.

Acorn lamp from Northern Lighting
The Acorn-lamp from Northern Lighting was originally launched in white, which is
perfect for the PURE NORDIC and the MODERN RUSTIC interior. This autumn it was
launched in a beautiful grey nuance, which works great in an URBAN CONTRAST setting.

Lamp with textile shade from Bloomingville
A simple floor lamp with a textile shade will work well in a MODERN RUSTIC interior
that also includes some classic elements – this is a well know lamp design that also
looks good in both the CLASSIC ELEGANCE and PURE NORDIC interior.

Cheshire-lamp by GamFratesi for Fontana Arte
The Cheshire-lamp by GamFratesi for Fontana Arte is beautiful in its simplicity, and is
also available in white and green, and as a floor and pendant lamp. This is a great example
of a lamp that transcends all interior styles due to its clean lines and organic shape.

Horse lamp by Jonathan Adler
The American designer Jonathan Adler approaches his designs with both humour and wit.
This striking table lamp will be perfect on a sideboard or a small table in a
CLASSIC ELEGANT interior. jonathanadler.com

Crown Major from Nemo Lighting, designed by Jehs + Laub
Classic chandeliers are great, but I love seeing new interpretations of them, like
Crown Major from Nemo Lighting, designed by Jehs + Laub. This is a work of art,
and I would place it over a CLASSIC ELEGANT dining table as a striking contrast.

Davey Lighting lamp
The British company Davey Lighting produce lamps with a lot of history, and many
of them are classics. One of my favorites is the pendant lamp Diner, which changes
character with the room. The picture shows it in an URBAN CONTRAST setting,
but it would also look great in the CLASSIC ELEGANT home.

Tribeca, designed by Søren Rose for Menu
Tribeca, designed by Søren Rose for Menu

If I have to name one favourite lamp this season, my choice is the series Tribeca, designed by
Søren Rose for Menu. Simply perfect! I would choose the table lamp for a MODERN RUSTIC
or URBAN CONTRAST interior, while the table lamps would suit all four styles. menu.as

Bell Lights for Classicon designed by Sebastian Herkner
The German designer Sebastian Herkner has designed some of the more interesting lamps of the past couple of years,
namely Bell Lights for Classicon – you can choose one, or pair two or three together. Beautiful materials ensure that
these lamps become art objects, and therefore perfect in most interior styles, but perhaps most specifically in
URBAN CONTRAST or PURE NORDIC. Notice the lovely old flooring in the image; ask you BOEN representative
for how to achieve this look. classicon.com

lamp, designed by Morten & Jonas
This new lamp, designed by Morten & Jonas, is both an uplight and a downlight,
and manufactured from brass and polystone. I like the playful modern shape,
which works well in all types of rooms and styles. bolia.com

lamp series Lullaby is designed by Monica Förster for Lightyears
The lamp series Lullaby is designed by Monica Förster for Lightyears, and made of
stone paper and wood. Stone paper is made from crushed limestone, which is both
robust and sustainable. This is new Nordic design, which feels most at home in a
PURE NORDIC interior. lightyears.dk

glass lamp from House Doctor
This glass lamp from House Doctor reminds me of soap bubbles, and is lovely to look
at. Would look good in both a MODERN RUSTIC and a PURE NORDIC interior.

Bloomingville lamps

You should never be afraid to mix different styles of lamp, it will add character to a
room, like this PURE NORDIC interior. Remember also that pendant lamps do not
need to hang over a dining room or living room table, they can also work well in
corners or as night table lamps, be creative! All objects from Bloomingville.

Oak Pearl plank
The AJ lamp form Louis Poulsen is a Scandinavian design classic, which
is typically at home in a PURE NORDIC interior, but it would also look
good as a contrast in a CLASSIC ELEGANT home. The calm floor in
the picture is BOEN Oak Pearl Plank. Photo: BOEN. louispoulsen.com

Oak Antique and HIstorical mix solid plank Modern Rustic style
A mix of industrial type lamps suits the MODERN RUSTIC interior; a
good example is the brass wall lamp against the black reading lamp.
The floor is BOEN Oak Antique solid plank and BOEN Oak Historical Plank solid plank.

Oak Blue Moon Castle plank Fashion collection_urban contrast style
A pendant lamp with a strong personality fits this URBAN CONTRAST
interior perfectly. This is also an industrial type lamp, so it would not look
out of place in a MODERN RUSTIC interior as well. The floor is
BOEN Oak Blue Moon Castle Plank, one of my favorites! Photo: BOEN

Oak Amber plank Classic Elegance
A shapely glass lamp foot with a beautiful textile shade is lovely in a
CLASSIC ELEGANT interior. Two matching lamps on either side of a
sofa create balance and harmony. The floor is BOEN Oak Amber Plank.
